The Lord's Supper a Blessed Reminder of Jesus Christ

Luke 22:13-20 New King James Version (NKJV)

13 So they went and found it just as He had said to them, and they prepared the Passover.

14 When the hour had come, He sat down, and the [a]twelve apostles with Him. 15 Then He said to them, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”

17 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves; 18 for I say to you, [b]I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”

19 And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”

20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.

SERMON NOTES

Introduction: When Jesus Christ initiated the celebration of the Lord’s Supper on the night before He went to the Cross, He made it clear to His disciples that what they were doing was going to be in remembrance of Him. And through the years, believers all over the world have been made aware of this truth every time they celebrate this ordinance. The serve then is not a repetition of what He did on the Cross (this is not a mass), but a simple and sacred memorial of Him and of what He idd for us. Bear in mind that as you and I participate today, were are reminded of

  1. The _____________________ of Jesus Christ (vs. 24,25) “in remembrance of Me”

  2. The ____________________ of Jesus Christ (vs. 24,25) “body…broken for you”, “in My blood”, “the Lord’s death”

  3. The ______________________ of Jesus Christ (v.26) “til He comes”

Do Not Harden Your Hearts Towards God

Hebrews 3:7-19 New King James Version (NKJV)

7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says:

“Today, if you will hear His voice,

8 Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,

In the day of trial in the wilderness,

9 Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me,

And saw My works forty years.

10 Therefore I was angry with that generation,

And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart,

And they have not known My ways.’

11 So I swore in My wrath,

‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ”

12 Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; 13 but [a]exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, 15 while it is said:

“Today, if you will hear His voice,

Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”

16 For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses? 17 Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? 19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

Our Christian Faith

Ephesians 4:1-6 New King James Version (NKJV)

1 I, therefore, the prisoner [a]of the Lord, [b]beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in [c]you all.

SERMON NOTES

introduction: The main sense of the word “faith” is that of “trust” or “reliance”, the verbal form of which is “believe” accompanied by the preposition “in”. However, the word we’re using now is one which implies a body of Christian truth that is believed, received and held fast (Galatians 1:23; 1 Timothy 4:1,6; Jude 1:3). What kind of FAITH is it?

  1. Is a FAITH that is __________________________ .

  2. Is a FAITH that __________________________ .

  3. Is a FAITH that __________________________ .

  4. Is a FAITH that is __________________________ .

The Light That Attracts

Philippians 2:12-18 New King James Version (NKJV)

Light Bearers

12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

14 Do all things without [a]complaining and disputing,[b] 15 that you may become blameless and [c]harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.

17 Yes, and if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. 18 For the same reason you also be glad and rejoice with me.
