The Post-Resurrection Acts of Jesus Christ

Luke 24:33-48 (NKJV)

33 So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, 34 saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” 35 And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread.
36 Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace to you.” 37 But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen a spirit. 38 And He said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.”
40 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. 41 But while they still did not believe for joy, and marveled, He said to them, “Have you any food here?” 42 So they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish and some honeycomb. 43 And He took it and ate in their presence.
44 Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” 45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.
46 Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And you are witnesses of these things.

SERMON NOTES:

Luke, the historian, wrote in the book of Acts that Jesus, after He arose from the dead, presented Himself to His disciples alive by many infallible proofs for forty days and spoke of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God (1:1) In the passage that we read, we see 4 things that Jesus specifically did to prove that He was indeed risen.

  1. He showed them His physical ______________________(vs.33-35)
  2. he offered them His divine ______________________(vs.36-43)
  3.  He made them understand Scriptural ______________________(vs.44-45)
  4. He assured them of the Father's ______________________(vs.46-48)

The Lord's Supper - a Celebration That Nourishes the Christian Hope

1 Corinthians 11:26 (NKJV)

26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.

Titus 2:11-14 (NKJV)

11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

SERMON NOTES:

The Lord's Supper is a memorial service that helps us to look back to what Jesus did for us on the cross. It also is a prophetical service as it challenges us to look forward to Christ's return. The celebration therefore nourishes our "blessed hope" which is expressed in 3 ways:

  1. The __________________ look of ________________ (vs.11,12)
  2. The __________________ look of ________________ (vs.13)
  3. The __________________ look of ________________ (vs.14)

My Life is the Lord's

Leviticus 1:14-17 (NKJV)

14 ‘And if the burnt sacrifice of his offering to the Lord is of birds, then he shall bring his offering of turtledoves or young pigeons. 15 The priest shall bring it to the altar, wring off its head, and burn it on the altar; its blood shall be drained out at the side of the altar. 16 And he shall remove its crop with its feathers and cast it beside the altar on the east side, into the place for ashes. 17 Then he shall split it at its wings, but shall not divide it completely; and the priest shall burn it on the altar, on the wood that is on the fire. It is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, a sweet aroma to the Lord.

SERMON NOTES:

The first 5 Chapters of Leviticus reveal the 5 different kind of sacrifice the people of Israel were expected to give. In Christ, all of them have found their fulfillment. However, they have applications to believers's lives today. Although, we are not commanded to offer animal as sacrifices anymore, we are encouraged to present our bodies as living, holy, acceptable sacrifices to the Lord. The birds in this passage represent each of us, who we are and what we have, which we wholeheartedly offer to the Lord.

  1. The Head - speaks of our _________________________.
  2. The Crop - represents our _________________________.
  3. The Feathers - symbolize our _________________________.
  4. The Wings - stand for our _________________________.
  5. The Blood - denotes our _________________________.

Easter Sunday - Jesus the Resurrection and the Life

Matthew 28:1-10 (NKJV)

1 Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. 2 And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. 3 His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. 4 And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.
5 But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7 And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.”
8 So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.
9 And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, “Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.”

SERMON NOTES:

It is interesting to note that the first Easter message was given by an angel as was the first Christmas message. The first congregation though was women. And like the shepherds who received the Christmas message, the women responded accordingly. There are 3 truths in the Easter message:

  1. The ________________ of the Message: _____________ and __________(vs.6)
  2. The ________________ of the Message: _____________ and __________(vs.7)
  3. The ________________ of the Message: _____________ and __________(vs.9)
